SUCH LONELY COUNTRY, 2019/2020

SUCH LONELY COUNTRY is a single-channel video in which I play both myself and the early 20th century Austin-based botanist Mary Sophie Young, performing passages aloud from both Young's diaries and my own. The text was created by connecting our separate writings through overlapping words and shared sentiments. In scenes when I speak Young's words, I wear a custom augmented reality face mask made using a photo of Ms. Young. The video was shot between my studio in Austin and west Texas where I attempt to track down plants Young collected 100 years ago.
