Mary Todd Lincoln... is a two-channel video about the process of making a video about former first lady Mary Todd Lincoln. On the left channel, you see me playing myself, anxiously, in my studio. On the right you see me playing Mrs. Lincoln in a campy period set. The narrative arc of the video is based on my experience researching the first lady, with a particular focus on her poor health, potentially caused by undiagnosed pernicious anemia. As the video progresses, a voiceover narrative reveals my increasing concern that I, like Mary Todd, have pernicious anemia. My hypochondria becomes a way of connecting to the first-lady.
